Dancing to music

The music and lyrics for TRICKSTER have been specially written for this musical. Within the lyrics is the story that tracks the life of the victims of distraction burglary and how they gain the skills and deal with door step callers.

Each song covers a aspect of the problem and the solution and is played on accordion, sqeezebox and ukulele. The songs include " Got You" which covers the arrest of a distraction burglar with the lines "You're not coming out to play tomorrow" and the finale "Don't take me in" which encourages confidence and rebuild the pride and self respect. IN 1944

Sometimes when I think back I remember
A time when things were safer then
We could leave our doors wide open
No risk of crime or bogie men.
We risked our lives for freedom
To live free of fear and tyranny
Now we are so much older
Why are we in fear of villany.

Years ago we endured great hardship
To create a better world for all
But some people in this world
Don't care about that at all

We dodged the bombs and lost family
We cried as we slept at night
Not sure what the future held
Not sure who would win the fight.

So our message to the vultures
Who prey on us at our vulnerable time
We fought to give you a better world
You repay us with your crime……

REFLECTIONS

You may think that I am old and grey
An easy touch, easy prey
You don't that you can't see
What your crime has done to me
I can recall proud moments in my life
Fought for my country, married my wife
Now all my pride is gone..
I've been conned

Sitting here don't know what to say
They've taken my self-respect away
There was a time when things were good
Not every caller was a hood.

As time goes by will my fears ease
Learn to trust and to believe
Feeling scared and confused
letting them in should I of refused

I can recall proud moments in my life
Fought for my country, married my wife
Now all my pride is gone..
I've been conned

DOORSTEP DITTY

You can knock my door
You can ring my bell
I'm not going to answer
Even if you yell

I may be independent
I may live alone
But you're not welcome
In my home
You can tell me stories
You can tell me lies
But being 'wised up'
can see through your disguise

You may try and trick me
With tales that just aren't true
But I am wiser now
can see just who is who

I'm going to put on the chain
Ask for ID
Be on my guard
You're not getting me

BOGEYMAN MARCH

We're the greatest bogus callers
We are here to catch you out
We want money, cash your savings
We are always out and about
We call as builders, gas men, traders
We say we've come to collect a ball
We try to trick you into our story
Just to get us pass your door

Cutting trees and doing gardens
Fixing fences gates and drives
We're from the council, to read your meter
Don't be fool by our disguise.

I need a glass of fresh cold water
My cars is broken can I call a friend
I try my luck, I want your money
My range of stories never end

Don't let us in - don't believe us -
Don't even answer the door
Be on your guard ask questions
call him* if you feeling unsure

GOT YOU

We've caught you out
We'll run you in
You've been caught
For your sin
You're not coming out to play tomorrow

You've been nabbed
Your collar felt
Caught in the act
And that's a fact.

You're not coming out to play tomorrow

A thousand eyes
Our community spies
And their despise
For your tricks and lies

You're not coming out to play tomorrow

You use deceit
In your evil feat
But now your beat
You're in retreat

DON'T TAKE ME IN

Don't try to take me in,
treat me like a fool
You won't succeed
So I'm now aware
Of the tricks you pull
I won't believe……..
I am stronger now
More than I've ever been
So don't try to take me in

Don't try to take me in
Tell me lots of tales
I won't agree………….
You, you can try in on
But you won't get far
You won't deceive.

I am stronger now
More than I've ever been
So don't try to take me in
